Your child can call home. The smartphone can wait.

Do you remember the phone that hung in the hallway? The one you rang home from in a friend's kitchen, and that had no app store, no feed and no camera. Mooring gives your child the same option on a used Galaxy Watch or Android phone: calls and messages to the people you have approved, and otherwise only the apps you let in yourself. You can see where your child is. No new watch to buy and no ads.

The first few families are testing Mooring now. Would you like to help shape it? Leave your email.

Why Mooring?

The phone in the hallway is gone

Children used to be able to call home from a phone that was only a phone. Today what is on offer is a smartphone with everything else on it too. Mooring gives that option back: a device whose most important job is calling home, and where nothing else gets in unless you let it in.

Kids' smartwatches lock you in

Most kids' smartwatches need their own watch, their own subscription and their own app from the same supplier, and when your child outgrows the watch, the next purchase is waiting. Mooring uses hardware and a subscription you may already have.

The smartphone can wait

It is easier to put off the smartphone when your child can reach you anyway. Ordinary parental controls still let a child browse the app store freely, with games and video ads. In Mooring the app store stays hidden until you open it, and apps arrive one at a time, because you chose them.

How it is meant to work

  1. 1

Put a used device to work

A Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 or newer with LTE, or an Android phone.

  2. 2

    Use the subscription you have

Many mobile plans come with a free data SIM or twin card. That is enough, because calls go over the internet.

  3. 3

Run it all from the parent app

Choose apps, approve contacts and see where your child is.
